Masters in teaching
Would you like to teach social sciences in secondary schools? The Faculty of Social Sciences offers 120- and 60-credit teaching courses: the S4 and S5 Masters in Teaching respectively.
Several courses are available. Which one should you choose?

The following options are available to you:
- take a master's degree in social sciences (one or two years) and continue with the master's degree in teaching S5 (one year)
- take a master exclusively for teaching, the master S4 (two years)

You can complete your training for teaching with the master en enseignement S5 (formerly "agrégation").

Are you finishing a bachelor's degree and have a variety of career aspirations, including teaching?
there are 2 options open to you, detailed below:
- Long option:120-credit disciplinary Master's degree, ideally in Sociology or Anthropology (+ any additional curriculum), followed by a 60-credit Master's degree in teaching (S5)
- Short option: 60-credit Master's degree in Sociology or Anthropology (+ additional curriculum if required), followed by a 60-credit Master's degree in teaching (S5)
Who is this program for?
This course is aimed at holders of a short or long bachelor's degree from a university or college, or a university bachelor's degree in the social sciences, who wish to take advantage of a variety of career opportunities, including teaching.
What is the impact of the short option on job opportunities?
In just two years (not including any supplementary programs), you'll earn two university degrees, giving you access to a wide range of career prospects in the humanities and social sciences. You'll also have access to the teaching profession.
If your aspirations change, after completing the Sociology and Anthropology master's degree, you can also enter the second year of one of the 120-credit master's programs offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences.

This master's degree, organized by ULiège's Faculty of Social Sciences, is one of the qualifications required to teach social sciences in secondary schools. It is directly accessible to university graduates with a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology / human and social sciences, and with a complementary program to many other student profiles.

After the Master's degree, complete your training with the Master's in Teaching section 5 (60 credits)
This Master's degree, organized as a joint degree by the Université de Liège and the Hautes écoles du Pôle Liège-Luxembourg, is open to students who already hold a 60- or 120-credit university Master's degree. It enables graduates to broaden their professional horizons in the teaching profession. No dissertation is required.
The Master en Enseignement S5 will replace the agrégation de l'enseignement secondaire supérieur from September 2025.
