Biography
Jean-Michel Lafleur is Associate Professor at the University of Liège, Associate Director of CEDEM and Senior Research Associate at the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research (FRS-FNRS). He is also the coordinator of the IMISCOE Research Network. Jean-Michel teaches different courses on Migration at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Liège.
He holds a joint PhD in Political Science and International Relations from Sciences Po in Paris and the University of Liège (2008) and a M.A from the College of Eurpe (Bruges). Jean-Michel's areas of expertise are migration and welfare, EU mobility, public opinion and migration and the political participation of immigrants. Jean-Michel has received varius grants from national and international funders including a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) and several other EU grants (DG JUST, AMIF...). His work appears primarily in politics and sociology scientific journals (European Political Science Review, Global Networks, Democratization, Sociology, Ethnic and Racial Studies, British Journal of Sociology...) and he is also the author of several monographs and edited volumes (Routledge, Springer IMISCOE Series, Leuven University Press...). Over the course of his career, he also taught and conducted research as the Mora Institute in Mexico City, the European University Institute in Florence, the City University of New York (as a Fulbright scholar), the City University of London. and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies in Hamburg (Germany).
